SERVICES
We currently run the following services through Opawaho Trust

Sports
Our youth workers coach sports. Involvement in extracurricular activities is important for wellbeing. We coach Football, Basketball, Netball, Indoor Sports, Cricket and Touch Rugby as well as running fitness groups

Social Groups
We love spending time in groups, working with young people on developing better social skills, building school spirit and perpetuate quality peer relationships

In class help
Building a positive school environment is essential for youth well-being. Youth workers aim to support teachers and school staff in the class room to help facilitate off task students so teachers can focus on teaching the whole class

Homework Club
In conjunction with Opawa Baptist Church, the Trust runs a homework club for students to catch up on school work or do homework. We run this on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school 3-5pm

Music Lessons
Our youth workers are also involved in music tutoring. Currently this just encompasses guitar and keys lessons but will later stretch to bass and drum lessons also. These will all be run out of Opawa Baptist Church - where the Opawaho Trust Offices reside.

Lunchtime Activites
Running games for classes or during lunchtimes is a highlight for our youthworkers. We love inclusive team games like Ki O Rahi, kickball, basketball, gang tag and dodgeball. We also love the classics - hopscotch, limbo, sumo wrestling, and ball tag.

Leadership Groups
Youth workers help facilitate student leaders in the school by organising leadership activities and events.

Mentoring
Often kids just need to be heard. The more caring adults in a young person's life the safer and more driven they feel. Our youth workers make time to meet with young people and talk about real issues in their lives, offering referrals where needed

Koru Youth
Koru Youth is a life-skills youth group run for year 7-8 youth in the Waltham area. It includes kids from local schools: Waltham Primary, Te Waka Unua and Hillview Christian School
YDSA Principals
Our youth workers are firm advocates of Youth Development Strategy Aotearoa Principals. We are strengths-based, and maximise a young person's interactions with positive adult role models.
